Goodbye CO2 - groundbreaking for biochar

Date: 02.11.2022Author: Dominik Dunst
First CO2-neutral industrial building, binding an additional 3000 tons of CO2 per year - ground-breaking ceremony for our largest project to date!

The key data

  • Binding of 3000 tons of CO2 per year (corresponds to approx. 2000 tons of biochar per year)
  • 1 MW heat production
  • 830 kWp photovoltaic system
  • Energy self-sufficient operation thanks to hot gas turbine
  • 6000 tons of screenings from composting and pruning per year
  • 15,000 tons of sewage sludge drying per year

The new charcoal plant with an investment volume of approx. 7.3 million euros is the biggest step we have ever taken as a company! We already have a very wide range of products in which the raw material biochar plays a very important role. The following products, for example, contain biochar as a raw material:

The reason for our expansion is therefore quite simply the increasing demand for our products.

We also want to create completely new product ranges!

Hard facts about construction activity

  • 100 solid cubic meters of wood
  • 2100 m3 climate concrete (concrete with Clim@Add)
  • 3.5 km main power cable
  • 10 km of other cables
  • 75 tons of steel for mechanical engineering
  • 3000 h planning effort so far
  • Completion June 2023

Our project partners

It is only thanks to the active and almost passionate support of our numerous project partners that we are able to realize such a large project in the first place!

We would therefore like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone involved.

Sonnenerde – Healthy soil has weight!

We produce quality soil – simply disposing of biomass is not enough for us. Humanity now understands that it can intervene in nature and that each of us plays a role in deciding what the world around us will look like tomorrow. At Sonnenerde, we think that’s fantastic and have taken on the responsibility to treat the environment with respect.
