Primary rock dust is the most important additive for composting! We never produce compost without adding 5–10 vol% of this rock dust. We also highly recommend this cost-effective additive for home composting and agricultural composting.

In home gardens, regularly sprinkle it over collected compost materials—especially with moist waste like grass clippings or kitchen scraps, as it helps absorb excess moisture and bind odors. The better it is mixed into the rest of the compost material, the more effective it will be—so don’t layer it, but mix it in thoroughly. (→ see also compost activator)

In agricultural or professional composting, apply 5–10 vol% of rock dust directly onto the compost pile (just pour it on with a loader) and then mix it in with a turner.

Rock dust not only supplies essential minerals and trace elements, but also positively influences the microbiology of the compost. In addition, its large surface area binds both odors and nutrients.

All well-known, permanently fertile soils around the world have regularly received fresh mineral inputs in some form (examples: Nile silt, Terra Preta enriched with sludge from the Amazon).

Our rock dust comes from the company Aspanger Bergbau and is also referred to here as “Aspolit.” The silicate material is considered an “impurity” in the processing of mica into powder for paints and coatings and therefore needs to be washed out. As a result, this rock dust is moist and easy to handle and store. The majority of the grain size is under 10 micrometers, allowing it to take effect quickly.

Bulk density: 1.3 t/m³
