The new biochar production facility, which offers only advantages compared to other CO2 capture technologies, will be 10 times larger than the previous plant. For this, we have developed a completely new plant concept. While approximately 2,000 tons of biochar were produced over the past 10 years, the same amount will be produced within just one year in the future. - Residual biomass available at our facility, green waste delivery
- Residual biomass is converted into biochar —> stable carbon for hundreds of years, thus sequestering CO2
- Biochar production is technically and energetically optimized to the utmost — nothing comparable exists worldwide
- Direct heat transfer to biomass —> VERY high efficiency in biochar production
- Direct use of high-temperature waste heat/exhaust gas (300 °C) for contract drying of sewage sludge — exhaust gas is simultaneously cleaned during the drying process
- Condensed heat is reused at around 55 °C for biomass drying and heating of halls and offices
- Ammonium sulfate is washed out by a flue gas scrubber —> this is nitrogen, which we spray back onto the charcoal to pre-load it or use as fertilizer
- Finally: biochar is mixed/ground into finished products —> thus, we create CO2 sinks with added benefits for the product buyer (such as organic black soil)
- The PV system on the roof is being expanded and an ORC process integrated to operate the entire facility as energy-autonomously as possible
